Where Flowers Found Their Forever Bloom
Born in the historic town of Sanganer, roughly 14 kilometers south of Jaipur, Rajasthan, the history of Sanganeri printing dates back nearly 500 years, with significant development during the 16th and 17th centuries.
Sanganeri Print remains one of India's finest textile traditions, blending centuries-old craftsmanship with timeless elegance and continues to be a defining symbol of Rajasthan's rich cultural and artistic heritage. This Hand Block Print blossomed under royal patronage and Mughal emperors, adorning the wardrobes of noble families with its graceful floral trails and luminous white backgrounds.
Sanganeri Print is one of Rajasthan's most celebrated hand block printing traditions, renowned for its fine floral motifs, delicate outlines, and soft, elegant colour palette. The craft flourished because of the clean water of the Dhund River, which was especially suitable for washing and fixing natural dyes, making Sanganer an ideal centre for textile printing.
Its beauty lies in remarkable precision. Each colour is applied using individually hand-carved wooden blocks, aligned by eye with extraordinary accuracy until delicate vines, blossoms, and bootis bloom across the fabric. The result is a textile that feels effortlessly elegant—perfect for those who appreciate understated luxury, timeless craftsmanship, and garments that never drift out of style.
The craft is believed to have been introduced by the Chhipa community, traditional textile printers who migrated from regions of present-day Gujarat and nearby Rajasthan. They settled in Sanganer because of the availability of clean water, suitable climate, and patronage from local rulers.
Sanganeri Hand Block Printing has been granted a Geographical Indication (GI) status, recognizing it as an authentic traditional craft originating from the Sanganer region of Rajasthan and protecting its unique heritage.
