Leheriya — Waves of Joy

Leheriya (or Lehariya) is a spectacular, vibrant variant of the traditional Indian tie-and-dye technique that captures the essence of the monsoon season. Its name is derived from the Rajasthani/Hindi word ‘leher’, which means wave. Unlike the dotted patterns of standard Bandhani, Leheriya is characterized by its striking, diagonal zigzag or wavy stripes.
During the 19th and early 20th centuries, Leheriya received immense patronage from the royalty and elite merchant classes of Rajasthan, particularly in Jaipur and Jodhpur.

Leheriya captures the movement of Rajasthan itself. Inspired by rolling desert winds and the life-giving arrival of the monsoon, its flowing diagonal waves have long been associated with Teej, Raksha Bandhan and festive celebrations throughout Jaipur and beyond.
The magic begins by tightly rolling fabric diagonally before it is dyed in successive colours. When unfurled, graceful wave-like stripes emerge, each one naturally unique. The flowing pattern creates movement even in stillness, making every garment feel vibrant and alive.
